Violet Moon Fizz Recipe

There’s something about a purple cocktail that instantly grabs attention.

Maybe it’s the way the colour catches the light or how it feels a little more luxurious than your standard Friday night drink, but the Violet Moon Fizz has quickly become one of my favourite cocktails to serve when I want something that looks impressive without being difficult to make.

This cocktail combines floral crème de violette, fresh lemon juice and blueberry syrup with a good quality dry gin to create a drink that is bright, lightly sparkling and surprisingly refreshing. It has enough sweetness to feel smooth and approachable, but the citrus keeps everything balanced so it never becomes heavy or overly sugary.

What I love most about this cocktail is that it feels like something you would order at an upscale cocktail bar, yet it is completely achievable at home with the right ingredients and a decent cocktail shaker.

If you enjoy floral cocktails, berry driven drinks or cocktails that genuinely stand out when served to guests, this one deserves a place on your must make list.

Why This Cocktail Actually Works

A lot of floral cocktails miss the mark because they push too hard into perfume style flavours.

Lavender, violet and elderflower are all beautiful ingredients when used properly, but the second they overpower the citrus or spirit base, the drink loses balance completely.

The Violet Moon Fizz works because every ingredient has a job.

The gin provides structure and botanical depth.

The crème de violette brings floral character and that dramatic purple colour.

Blueberry syrup softens the sharper citrus edges while adding a richer berry finish.

Fresh lemon juice brightens everything and stops the cocktail from becoming overly sweet.

Then the soda water ties it all together with a light sparkling finish that makes the drink incredibly refreshing.

The result is elegant without trying too hard.

The Best Gin To Use For A Violet Moon Fizz

Gin selection matters more than people realise in floral cocktails.

Sweeter flavoured gins can quickly push this drink into candy territory, especially once the blueberry syrup and floral liqueur are added.

For this recipe I had the best results using Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin because the citrus and spice notes work beautifully alongside the blueberry and violet flavours.

If you prefer something softer and more floral, Hendrick’s Gin is another excellent option.

One thing I strongly recommend if you are starting to build a proper home bar is investing in quality spirits early. Better alcohol genuinely changes your cocktails.

Cheap gin can taste harsh and overly alcoholic once shaken with citrus, while a smoother gin creates a cleaner, more balanced finish.

The Equipment That Makes This Cocktail Better

You do not need a fully stocked commercial bar setup to make great cocktails at home, but having the right tools absolutely makes a difference.

For this recipe I used the Barillio cocktail shaker set because it includes:

  • A weighted cocktail shaker
  • A double sided jigger
  • A Hawthorne strainer
  • Mixing spoon
  • Muddler

A proper shaker chills the cocktail faster, creates better dilution and gives the drink a smoother finish overall.

If you are still using random kitchen cups and guessing measurements, upgrading your basic cocktail kit is honestly one of the fastest ways to improve your drinks.

I also highly recommend serving this cocktail in a clear highball or Collins glass. The purple colouring is one of the biggest visual features of the drink, and good glassware makes the presentation feel far more premium.

Crystal clear ice also makes a surprisingly big difference here. Cloudy freezer ice can dull the overall appearance, while large clear cubes make the cocktail look cleaner and more professional.

Choose a dry botanical gin for the best balance.

Creates berry sweetness and smooth texture.

25 ml fresh lemon juice

Fresh citrus is essential for brightness.

How To Make A Violet Moon Fizz

Step 1: Fill Your Cocktail Shaker With Ice

Add plenty of ice to your shaker. The colder the cocktail gets during shaking, the smoother and cleaner the final drink will taste.

Step 2: Add Your Ingredients

Pour in:

  • Gin
  • Crème de violette
  • Blueberry syrup
  • Fresh lemon juice

Step 3: Shake Properly

Shake hard for around 15 seconds.

One of the biggest mistakes beginner home bartenders make is under shaking cocktails. You want proper chilling and slight dilution to balance the flavours correctly.

The shaker should feel extremely cold in your hands when ready.

Step 4: Strain Into Fresh Ice

Strain the cocktail into a tall glass filled with fresh ice.

Fresh ice matters because the ice used during shaking has already started melting and can water the drink down too quickly.

Step 5: Top With Soda Water

Slowly pour soda water over the top to maintain carbonation.

You do not need much. Just enough to create a light sparkling finish.

Step 6: Garnish And Serve

Finish with dried lavender and fresh blueberries.

Presentation matters with cocktails like this. A clean garnish instantly makes the drink feel more elevated.

Homemade Blueberry Syrup Makes A Huge Difference

If you really want this cocktail to taste fresher and less artificial, homemade blueberry syrup is worth the extra ten minutes.

Most store bought syrups are loaded with artificial flavouring and excessive sugar, which can flatten the cocktail completely.

Making your own syrup gives you:

  • Better colour
  • Fresher berry flavour
  • More natural sweetness
  • Better consistency

Homemade Blueberry Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Method

  1. Add everything to a saucepan.
  2. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Gently mash the blueberries.
  4. Strain through a fine sieve.
  5. Allow to cool before using.

Store in the fridge for up to one week.

Common Mistakes That Ruin Floral Cocktails

Using Bottled Lemon Juice

Fresh citrus completely changes the drink.

Bottled juice tends to taste flat and slightly bitter, which removes the brightness this cocktail relies on.

A handheld citrus press is one of the best small upgrades you can make for home bartending because it makes fresh juice quick and easy every time.

Using Too Much Floral Liqueur

More is not always better.

Too much crème de violette can make the drink taste perfumed very quickly.

Stick to the measurements and let the floral notes support the cocktail rather than dominate it.

Using Flat Soda Water

Once soda water loses carbonation, the cocktail instantly feels heavier.

Always use freshly opened soda water for fizz style cocktails.

Serving It In Warm Glassware

A chilled glass keeps the cocktail colder longer and helps preserve carbonation.

If you are entertaining guests regularly, keeping cocktail glasses in the fridge before serving is one of the easiest ways to instantly elevate your drinks.
Make sue your glassware is also stylish and fun. Our favourite coupe glasses have been added to amazon at an amazing price. You can see for yourself here.

Food Pairings For Violet Moon Fizz

This cocktail works beautifully with lighter desserts and grazing style foods because the floral and citrus notes stay refreshing rather than overly rich.

Some of my favourite pairings include:

  • Lemon tart
  • Vanilla cheesecake
  • Berry macarons
  • White chocolate desserts
  • Soft cheeses
  • Fresh fruit platters

It also works perfectly for:

  • Bridal showers
  • Garden parties
  • Spring entertaining
  • Girls nights
  • Birthday celebrations

Final Thoughts On The Violet Moon Fizz

The Violet Moon Fizz is one of those cocktails that feels far more impressive than the effort required to make it.

The combination of floral violet, fresh citrus and blueberry creates a drink that feels elegant, refreshing and visually stunning without becoming overly complicated or difficult for beginner home bartenders.

Whether you are hosting friends, building your cocktail skills or simply looking for something beautiful to make on a Friday night, this cocktail delivers that perfect balance between approachable and elevated.

And honestly, once you see that deep purple colour hit the glass for the first time, you will understand exactly why cocktails like this continue to trend so heavily across modern cocktail bars and social media.
