Frozen Apple Margarita Mocktail (Crisp • Zesty • Slushy)

Everything you love about a classic marg—zingy lime, salty rim, fiesta energy—reimagined with fresh apple for an icy, alcohol-free crowd-pleaser. Perfect for BBQs, baby showers, weeknights, or any “make it cute, keep it sober” moment.

Why you’ll love it

  • Bright & balanced: Crisp apple sweetness meets limey tang.

  • Inclusive: Zero-ABV that still feels like a proper cocktail.

  • Five-minute blender job: Minimal faff, maximum refreshment.

  • Endlessly riffable: Spice it, sparkle it, or go tropical.

The Recipe (Aussie measurements)

Glass: Margarita or frosted tumbler
Rim: Lime + salt (classic) or lime + Tajín (spicy)
Yield: 2 serves

Ingredients

  • 250 ml 100% apple juice (fresh-pressed if you can)

  • 60 ml fresh lime juice (~2 large limes)

  • 15 ml agave syrup or honey (sweeten to taste)

  • 500 ml ice (about 2 cups)

  • Fine salt (for rimming)

  • Garnish: Thin apple fan, lime wheel, mint (optional)

Method

  1. Rim: Run a lime wedge round your glass rims, dip in salt, and chill the glasses.

  2. Blend: Add apple juice, lime, agave/honey, and ice to a blender. Blitz on high until smooth and slushy.

  3. Taste & tweak: Want sweeter? Add 5–10 ml more agave. Too thick? Splash more apple juice.

  4. Serve: Pour into the chilled, salted glasses. Garnish and get sipping.

KAD’s note: Fresh-pressed apple delivers brighter flavour. If using shelf-stable juice, a tiny pinch of sea salt wakes it up.

Dial it in (bartender notes)

  • Sharper, more “margarita”: Add 10–15 ml fresh orange juice or 5 ml non-alcoholic triple-sec syrup.

  • Extra frosty: Use part frozen apple juice cubes instead of some ice.

  • Keep it cold: Pre-chill juices and glasses so your slush holds longer.

  • Salt smart: Fine salt clings best; mix 3:1 salt to sugar for a softer rim.

Variations (choose your adventure)

Spiced Orchard Marg
Add 1–2 pinches ground cinnamon, and the tiniest grate of nutmeg. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Pineapple-Apple Marg
Swap 125 ml apple juice for 125 ml pineapple juice. Optional: dust rim with Tajín for a tangy kick.

Ginger Snap Marg
Blend in 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger or 15 ml ginger syrup. Zippy and refreshing.

Cucumber Cooler
Add 6–8 peeled cucumber slices to the blender; garnish with a cucumber ribbon and mint.

Sparkling Finish
Blend slightly thicker, then top each glass with a splash of chilled soda water for fizz.

Batch for a crowd (8 serves)

  • 1 L apple juice

  • 240 ml fresh lime juice

  • 90–120 ml agave syrup/honey (to taste)

  • ~2 L ice (adjust for blender and thickness)

How: Pre-chill liquids. Blend in two or three rounds. Keep the jug in the freezer between pours and give a quick re-blend if it loosens.

Perfect pairings

  • Mexi nibbles: Chips + guac, pico de gallo, prawn tacos, elote.

  • Fresh plates: Citrus-leaf salad, grilled fish, ceviche.

  • Sweet stuff: Lemon sorbet, fruit salad, apple crumble (lightly).

Troubleshooting

  • Too sweet: Add 10–15 ml more lime, a pinch of salt, and blitz.

  • Too tart: Add 10 ml agave/honey.

  • Too thin: Add a handful of ice and re-blend.

  • Watery fast: Pre-chill everything; use some frozen juice cubes.

Make it a “bar moment” at home

Set up a mini garnish station—apple fans, lime wheels, mint sprigs, Tajín, and fun straws. Let guests choose classic salt, chilli-salt, or sugar rims.
